Gartner Group Resources provides expert analysis and opinion on IT-related topics at the intersection of business and technology. Users can search Gartner’s proprietary research by market area, topic, or industry. Gartner also offers blogs and podcasts.

Gartner methodologies consist of research practices and procedures that distill large volumes of data into clear, precise recommendations so their clients can formulate plans or make difficult business decisions.

Gartner provides insights on major function areas including, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing & Communications, and Product R&D, in every market sector. Gartner provides a number of proprietary research products and services including the Gartner Magic Quadrant, Hype Cycles, Peer Insights, and Special Reports. IT related business topics can be found in the Research Library section of the Gartner database.

Gartner Magic Quadrants provide users with a graphical interface that examine four types of technology providers: Leaders, Visionaries, Niche Players and Challengers. Magic Quadrant industry areas include Communications, Manufacturing Technology, Services Technology, and Transportation. Topic areas covered include Business Applications, Software Infrastructure, IT Services, Business Objectives and Application Development.

Gartner Hype Cycles provide a graphic representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications. Hype Cycle methodology provides a view of technology and applications as they evolve over time.   Hype Cycle topic areas include Technology, Society & Public Policy, Business Applications, Software Infrastructure, Business Objectives and IT Management.

It May be Time to Renew Your WSJ.com Account!

It’s been just about a year since we announced that current Bentley faculty, staff, and students are eligible to receive free access to The Wall Street Journal online via the library’s group subscription. If you registered for an account when we first launched, your subscription will expire soon. All WSJ.com accounts will expire on their one year anniversary.

Don’t worry, it’s easy to continue your subscription following these steps:

  1. Go to Bentley’s activation page: https://wsj.com/bentley
  2. Complete the Create Account form. Select the account type (student, staff or faculty) and enter your name and Bentley University email address.
  3. You will see a confirmation screen if you have registered successfully. A confirmation email will also be sent to you.
  4. Verify your account by following the directions in the email that has been sent to you.

On Display: Women's History & Leadership

March is Women’s History Month and we are celebrating with a lobby display, guest curated with help from Bentley’s Gloria C. Larson Center for Women and Business! Visit the library from 2/18/19– 3/31/19 to browse items in person. Many of these books, as well as additional women’s history and leadership titles, are available as eBooks and audiobooks via the library’s OverDrive digital collection.

This display encompasses many aspects of women’s history and empowering women’s advancement. Titles have been divided into two sections to help you browse and choose new books more easily.

  • Looking Back: Learn about inspiring, historical women and the ways that they have led and changed the world. Find out about the history of women’s suffrage, early female entrepreneurs, and more.
  • Looking Ahead: Get inspired to be a future leader by picking up titles that discuss current women’s issues and strategies for women at work. Titles in this section address the wage gap, leadership, female mentorship, the state of women in politics, and more.

Check back on the display often – we will update the title list as new acquisitions arrive and checked-out titles return to the library. If a title you want to read is checked out, remember to place a hold! If you’d like to see a list of all the titles on display, click here.

Finding Quality Sources: Research Help

Bring whatever you are working on to a reference librarian and get immediate expert assistance in finding the information you need, whether it be articles, statistics, company information, or books. You will walk away with the source or two (or three) that you need!

When:

  • Monday, February 25th 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 26th   2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 27th 11:00 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday, February 28th 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Where:

Research Instruction Center (RIC), Room 11, on the lower level of the library.

No RSVP necessary – just drop in to the library’s classroom (room 11) anytime during the sessions.

Don’t forget, librarians also provide research help 7 days/week at the Reference Desk. Visit, email, call, text, or IM/chat with a librarian whenever the Reference Desk is open.

OverDrive has Business Titles!

Our OverDrive downloadable collection contains lots of bestselling fiction & biographies, but did you know that we also have over 400 popular business titles? Past and current favorites include: This is Marketing by Seth Godin, The Creative Curve by Allen Gannett and When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel Pink. The collection includes both ebooks and audiobooks, and they display from most popular to least.

RefWorks Video Tutorial

Missed our workshop and still want to use RefWorks? Investing 20 minutes viewing this tutorial and creating an account with your Bentley email address will save you time writing and editing your research papers.

RefWorks is a tool that creates bibliographies and formats research papers in the citation style of your choice (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).

Storm Closing: Library Closing at 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 12

Due to the inclement weather, Bentley University and the Bentley Library will be closing at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12. Weather permitting, the library will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13.

For official updates about the status of the university, check the Bentley University website or call the Bentley University Storm Emergency line at 781.891.2020. We also encourage you to follow the library’s updates on Twitter and Facebook.

Don’t forget that even when the library’s doors are closed, our research databases, eBook collections and streaming films databases are always accessible from both on and off campus.

Thank you to the Bentley community for contributing many thoughtful comments, suggestions, and ideas in response to the 14 Days to Have Your Say! campaign. We also appreciate your kind words about our staff, services, and resources. 

Between January 29th and February 11th we recorded 1,869 blog views and logged 47 blog posts and 11 blog comments.  The whiteboards placed throughout the library captured 142 notes.  

You gave us much to consider, and in the coming weeks we will be reviewing what everyone had to say. The library will post a response on the 14 Days to Have Your Say! blog site as soon as we can.
