Oscar Night is almost upon us!  Will you one of the millions tuning in to watch Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin host the 82nd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7, 2010?  Let the Bentley Library help you prepare…

Several of this year’s nominated films won’t be released on DVD until later this month, but the Bentley Library does have a few of the nominees available now to help you prepare for the big show (see list below).   Of course, we also have an amazing selection of previous year’s Oscar nominees and winners on DVD to help satisfy your Oscar fever.  Search for movies by title, actor, or director using the special DVD search in the library catalog, or stop by to browse the shelves.

The Inside Scoop from Our Jeopardy Champion

If you’ve been following this blog, you know that Reference Librarian Elizabeth Galoozis has been appearing on Jeopardy! since last Wednesday. Her winning streak came to an end in Monday night’s episode, leaving her with a grand total of $40,801 in winnings. Below, Liz gives us the inside scoop on her experience.

Many thanks to everyone at Bentley who watched me on Jeopardy. It was great to feel so supported by the Bentley community – and to receive all of your good wishes! A narrative of my experience as a contestant can be found later this week on the official Jeopardy website’s Winner’s Blog.

One question I got asked a lot after the first episode was: How did you know the answer to Final Jeopardy? (The question and answer are below.)

ANSWER: Surprisingly, this word appears only twice in the New Testament, once in Acts and once in the first epistle of Peter.

QUESTION: What is Christian?

As part of my cramming for the show, I read a book from our collection called A Non-Churchgoer’s Guide to the Bible, and that little piece of trivia happened to be right there in the book. I also made very helpful flash cards from The New York Public Library Desk Reference, which is shelved in our reference stacks. Thank you, Bentley Library!

Liz Scores a Second Jeopardy Victory! Tune in Monday Night for Game 3.

On Friday night Reference Librarian Elizabeth Galoozis became a two-time Jeopardy champion!  Will she make it a three-peat?  We’ll just have to wait and see…  Liz returns to the show as reigning Jeopardy champion on Monday for another shot at victory.   Tune in to WBZ-TV Channel 4 on Monday, February 22 @ 7:30pm to watch Liz defend her title.

Check out the newest exhibit at the Caturano and Company Art Gallery, featuring watercolors by local artist Marian Christy.

Ms. Christy was a syndicated columnist and editor at the Boston Globe for 26 years where she was the recipient of numerous national and international journalism awards. A self-taught visual artist, she has been painting full time since her retirement.  Beginning with a love of the French tradition, she has developed a strong, original, and expressionistic use of the medium of water-color.   Learn more about the artist and view more of her work at http://www.mchristy.com.

Due to the snowstorm, Bentley University and the Bentley Library will be closing at 6:30pm today, Tuesday, February 16.
