Changes to the Faculty Video Collection

The Bentley Library is in the process of removing all VHS tapes from its Faculty Video Collection.  This decision was made due to the fact that Bentley no longer has VHS players as part of its classroom technology infrastructure, and many of the VHS tapes have started to degrade and will eventually become unwatchable.

We will be replacing with DVDs or streaming video those films that have been checked out or placed on reserve recently or have lasting educational and artistic value. The remaining VHS titles will be discarded and the tapes recycled.

A significant number of the films formerly on VHS are now available through our Films on Demand collection.

This process will be completed by the end of this calendar year.

Bentley Library Top 10 Books, DVDs & Audiobooks, 2014/15

Are you one of those people who looks around to see what other people are reading on the train? Are you curious to know which movies and TV shows your fellow colleagues and students are watching? Have you been considering trying out an audiobook, but would like a recommendation? If so, you will appreciate the 6th annual Bentley Library Top 10!

Every May we query the library’s circulation system to rank the library’s most popular books, audiobooks, DVDs and OverDrive downloadable books based on the number of times they have been borrowed during the academic year (excluding any items placed on reserve for a class). With so many ties in this year’s rankings, you have even more to choose from.

Compiling the library’s “bestsellers” lists is one of our favorite activities; we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

5 New Things at the Library

Welcome back from spring break! As you settle back into the routine of classes, campus activities and studying, we would like to draw your attention to five new technology, equipment and website additions at the library. We want to make your library experiences – from charging your smartphone to identifying the location of a book in the stacks – a little bit easier.

Many of these items were implemented in response to feedback received during 14 Days to Have Your Say!, but we welcome suggestions at any time. Email library@bentley.edu or use the Contact Us form to tell us how we can improve the library.

1. USB charging outlets have been installed in the atrium outside the art gallery.

2. StackMap has been integrated with Encore (classic catalog integration is coming soon). Click the “Map It!” button to pinpoint the exact physical location of books, DVDs, audiobooks and periodicals in the library.

3. A second Bookeye book scanner has been installed in the upper level print room.

4. Blu-ray DVDs are being purchased for the popular DVD collection and two Blu-ray players have been installed in the Video Preview room.

5. A third water bottle filling station has been installed on the lower level.
