On Display: Testing, Testing 1,2,3

Now on display in the library’s lobby, the “Testing, Testing 1,2,3” display has three kinds of materials:

  1. Assistance with practice for professional exams, certifications, and credentialing.  Advancing a career to the next step sometimes requires taking a test such as GMAT, LSAT, GRE, CPA exam….  The likely users of these materials are graduate students or people about to finish their Bentley undergrad  journey.
  1. For anyone who has headaches getting ready for assessments in a timed setting, there is a wide selection of books with tips for users to study smarter, not harder.  Titles in this group address strategies for test taking, time management, study skills, and stress busting. Outsmart the  test.
  1. Finally, the “Testing, Testing 1,2,3” display offers material to answer academic questions such as, “What is the value of standardized tests in our school systems?” and “In what ways has teaching-to-the-test influenced education?” These materials will benefit researchers looking into education theory and the culture of standardized assessments.

Database of the Month: ACM Digital Library

ACM Digital Library, published by the Association for Computing Machinery, is a comprehensive collection of full-text articles and citations covering the fields of computing and information technology. A noteworthy strength of this database is full-text access to conference papers containing emerging research within the ACM’s special interest groups (SIGs).

This database is particularly useful for those pursuing research in the areas of computer science and/or Human Factors Information Design.

Our subscription includes:

  •  The Full-Text collection of all ACM publications, including journals, conference proceedings, technical magazines, newsletters and books, and a select collection of ACM DL logoother computing publications.
  • ACM Guide to Computing Literature, including a comprehensive bibliography of citations.
  • ACM Author and Institutional Profile Pages, which include bibliographic and bibliometric data for over 1.5 million authors, and every academic, government, and industry organization publishing articles in the field.

Search, Retrieval and Export

Browsing options are available on the main page, including a page containing names and descriptions of each SIG. Each interest group focuses on a specific area of computer science research; the searcher with a specific area of interest may wish to click a group name to narrow his/her search to a particular group.

Basic and Advanced searches are also provided. Advanced searching enables the user to join keywords or phrases to form a tailored search. Both the Basic and the Advanced searches allow the user to refine the result set by author, institution, conference name, date, publication name, and more.

Several options for exporting citations are available, including Endnote and CSV.

Personal Web Account

Sign up for a free Web account to save searches. Using the My Binder feature (available after login), the user can compile a bibliography of citations from the database.

Have copyright questions? The library has answers.

From books to business cases, photocopies to fair use, we’ve got you covered.

copyright-questionsThe library has recently added to its website important information about copyright and how it relates to the Bentley community. Within the Research tab in the top navigational bar of our website, you will find the “Policy on the Use of Copyrighted Materials for Education and Research”. This updated policy is designed to address the ambiguities of copyright law in relation to evolving faculty needs and student expectations and provides useful information to assist in interpreting the law and applying its principles to the use of copyrighted material in teaching and scholarship.

In addition, the library offers a comprehensive research guide to assist the Bentley University community in matters of copyright that are most likely to be encountered in academic setting. This guide is informed by numerous resources on copyright law and its relation to higher education and is shaped by the “community of practice” that has emerged among scholars and librarians.
