Bentley University students will be enjoying a short break over the Columbus Day holiday weekend – Saturday, October 8 through Tuesday, October 11. The library will remain open during this break and the Columbus Day holiday with some exceptions to our normal operating hours. The library’s hours are:
Tuesday, October 11
7:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
(normal operating hours)
Please note that the Deloitte Café (Einstein’s) and the Help Desk will also have modified hours Saturday through Monday. For complete hours information please view the hours calendar.
Every office has its quirks, its characters and its particular ethos. Because people spend so much time in an office environment, often a unique culture evolves. My coworkers and I have a wall where we post funny sayings overheard in our office over the years. Other offices have slightly different conventions, such as the classic scene in the movie Office Space where the printer/fax machine is destroyed.
For this display, we’ve pulled together books and films that relate to office culture. Whether you are looking for titles on organizational change, personal development, leadership, effective management, teamwork, work/life balance, diversity and inclusion, generations in the workplace, and other work-related topics, you’ll find something of interest. On the lighter side, we’ve also included books on office pranks, office supplies, and some classic Dilbert comic strips to lighten up your daily workload. And yes, you can check out Office Space and watch Michael, Peter, and Samir destroy that printer.
We know you’ll want to check out some of these items, so grab some Post-It notes to write down titles of interest. Or, come to the Library to browse the display, look at the entire list in the catalog (if you’d like, click the “Request it” button to place an item on hold), and/or visit the Reference Desk to see titles included in the display but not currently featured on the display units.
We aren’t necessarily advocating for extra time spent in the office, but we hope you’ll spend some time with titles from the Office Culture display.

Uniworld Online is an online business directory that began as two print directories: American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries and Foreign Firms Operating in the United States. It provides information on headquarters, subsidiaries, and branches (including retail locations) of multinational firms that have offices in more than one country.
Both public and private companies are included.
Users often turn to Uniworld to locate corporate hierarchy and/or contact information, develop a list of desired companies for job-seeking purposes, generate sales leads, and to find out the location of a company’s worldwide offices.
Search Keys
The search interface is straightforward, with clearly labeled search boxes. Ways of searching include:
Keyword
Type of company: public or private
Hierarchy status: parent, domestic subsidiary or international subsidiary
Country: Domestic or international location of headquarters
Industry code: NAICS code from 2 to 6 digits
Zip/postal code: exact domestic/international code or within a specified radius
Other geography: states/provinces within international countries
Other business elements: Revenue or number of employees
Search Results
Directory information for American Eagle Outfitters, Inc.
In addition to standard directory information such as address, website, email and telephone numbers, each company entry includes relevant NAICS codes (useful if you’re conducting company or industry research) and, in the case of retailers, information about local branches (listed as subsidiaries).
Save Searches
Uniworld allows you to save searches using the “My Account” feature. Bentley provides a common user account to which searches can be saved, and searches stay in the account until the user deletes them.
Database Help
Uniworld provides a user guide that walks you through using the database. Report samples of Web, PDF and Excel files are also available for viewing.
Connect to this Database
Please visit the Uniworld Online page to start your research. Please note that this resource is available for on-campus users only.

Election Day 2016 is fast approaching! A new guide from the library “American Political Elections” not only provides information on elections in the United States but also highlights Presidential Election 2016 resources that can help you keep up to date until you cast your vote on November 8th.
Find information such as:
Links to candidate websites
Dates and times for the televised debates
Voting information
Sources of election news coverage
However, it’s not just the presidential election that will be decided on November 8th! State and local elections are also taking place including congressional races. See the “Voting” section to find out how to get connected to your state’s voter resources where you can find out registration deadlines, polling places, how to get an absentee ballot, information on the local elections, and more!
Citing sources is important and necessary. It can also be confusing and frustrating, even for those of us with years of experience! Complicating matters is the variety of citation formats available. Expository Writing classes here at Bentley typically teach and use the MLA (Modern Language Association) format, but business faculty rightly require students to use the APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is the citation format used in the social sciences. The APA style of formatting is better suited to citing business resources and databases.
This post will focus on a few online sources that the library’s reference librarians use when answering APA citation questions. It’s important to note that there isn’t always an exact answer to a “how do I cite this?” question, but in all cases the APA’s basic guidelines can be used to construct a citation that will serve to accurately credit and lead back to an original source.
Here are a few of our favorite sources for APA style help and citation examples:
Our very own reference librarians have created a comprehensive set of APA reference list examples for the library’s business databases (e.g. Mintel, IBISWorld, ProQuest). This guide also covers the basics of in-text citation and provides in-text examples for paraphrasing and quotations.
The official APA Style Blog® not only answers common APA questions, but also tackles those trickier questions that arise, such as How Do I Cite a TED Talk?. There are a few blog posts that I repeatedly refer to when helping students:
The Generic Reference – provides a quick overview of the building blocks of an APA style citation
RefWorks is a citation management tool that the Bentley Library subscribes to. It’s a little like EasyBib, but more robust, and every Bentley student gets their own personal account. RefWorks helps you create bibliographies and format research papers in the citation style of your choice. RefWorks also allows you to easily organize and keep track of your references in folders in your RefWorks account. The library’s RefWorks & EndNote Research Guide has more information on RefWorks.
We hope you find these resources helpful. Please let us know if you have any questions!
