Book Dedications in Appreciation to Our Graduating Students

What would we do without our student assistants? They are here when we open the doors at 7:30 a.m. and close at 2:00 a.m. During exams we leave the overnight operation of the library in their trusted hands. We rely on them to help library users, wrestle with temperamental equipment, shelve and retrieve books (over and over and over again), facilitate Interlibrary Loan requests, and assist with the processing of every book and DVD we purchase. There’s so much more we could list, but suffice it to say that the library could not run without them.

It is a Bentley Library tradition to show appreciation to our graduates with a book or film dedication. Each student is invited to select an item that is meaningful to them, which is then affixed with a special bookplate in their name. This year, dedications have been made on behalf of these Class of 2017 graduates:

Adria Clanton-Thuon

Matt Glynn

Brandy Gwin

Analiz Henriquez

Janet Huang

Sully Jimenez

Sam Jung

Grace Litam

Kyla Reslock

Andrew Smith

A display of their selections will be available in the Popular Reading area. You can also view the photo album on Facebook and our Student Employee Dedications Pinterest board.

Congratulations and best wishes to our seniors, and thank you to all of our student employees for your hard work and commitment to the library.

Artist’s Statement

 My Brother’s Black Body

“The greatest reward of this constant interrogation, of confrontation with the brutality of my country, is that it has freed me from ghosts and girded me against the sheer terror of disembodiment.”

— Ta Nehisi Coates, Between the World and Me

The images in this exhibition are a celebration of the life and body of the young black male in America today and serve as a meditation on the public depiction of the black body. For me, these images are also a reflection of how I view my own blackness, touching on issues of masculinity and self-love.

My Brother’s Black Body was originally funded by and curated for the Boston College Libraries in collaboration with the Boston College Women’s Center as a part of Love Your Body Week in the fall of 2016.

Peace & blessings,

Malakhai Pearson, Bentley University ‘17

The library is very pleased to host this exhibit, which is co-sponsored by the Valente Center, the Office for Diversity & Inclusion, the Multicultural Center, and the Dean of Arts & Sciences. The exhibit will be on view until Friday, April 21.
