New Books, DVDs, and Audiobooks Acquired in December

Looking for a good book or movie to enjoy while on winter break? Check out the library’s newest acquisitions! Go to the New Books & DVDs page to browse the new arrivals by subject or format. When you see something you want, click the “Request” button to place a hold on it.

If you’re off-campus you can use the OverDrive app to download ebooks and digital audiobooks to your computer or mobile device, or read/listen to books online in your browser via the library’s OverDrive site.  For help using OverDrive, view their Getting Started page or visit the Reference Desk for personal assistance.

The Bentley Library is closed evenings and weekends when classes are not in session. The library’s hours for the period of January 2 – January 6, 2019, are:

Winter Break Closing: December 21 - January 1

Final exams are coming to an end, which means our hours will change for the last two days of operation before winter break. The library will close at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 (the last day of exams). We will be open 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20.

Bentley University and the Bentley Library are closed for Winter Break Friday, December 21, 2018, through Tuesday, January 1, 2019. The library will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2.

Reading Day Relief: Coffee Break, Buttons, Therapy Dogs & More!

The library is hosting four events on Reading Day (Tuesday, December 11) to encourage you to take some time off from studying to reboot your mind and body. Please drop in to as many as you can throughout the day!

OverDrive is a digital reading and listening platform providing you access to fiction and nonfiction bestsellers, award winners, classics and favorites. We are holding this drop-in session to answer all your questions about downloading books to enjoy over the winter break holiday. If you bring your laptop, Kindle, iPad, NOOK, smartphone or other device, we can help you get started!

Make Your Own Buttons

Take a break from studying to make-your-own buttons using the library’s button makers. We’ll provide pre-made designs, magazines, and coloring books for you to use, or you can put markers to paper and create your own design. This activity is sure to get your creative juices flowing!

Therapy Dogs

Our furry friends Kodiak and Echo are returning to the library to spend some quality time with you! Studies show that interacting with animals can improve our interpersonal interactions and mood, reduce cortisol, lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce anxiety, enhance empathy, and improve learning. Come and see for yourself. Drop in to the art gallery to unwind with these two giant, lovable Bernese Mountain Dogs.

24-Hour Access for Final Exams Starts Monday, December 10

The library’s 24-hour access for final exams begins at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, December 10 (the last day of classes) and ends at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 (the last day of exams), with one small Saturday-night exception.

Monday, December 10 – Saturday, December 15:
Open at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, 12/10 and remain open until
9:00 p.m. on Saturday 12/15

Sunday, December 16 – Wednesday, December 19:
Open at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday 12/16 and remain open until
6:00 p.m. on Wednesday 12/19

During finals week many of you will retreat to the Bentley Library to seek out a quiet place to study for exams and write papers, and there will be times when the building will be near capacity. We ask that you please be courteous to the people working around you, mindful of your voices, and respectful of the space. If you encounter any problems or need assistance, don’t hesitate to talk with any library staff member.

What to expect during the extended hours:

  • We are implementing Bentley ID card-swipe access during the overnight hours. Only Bentley ID card holders will be able to enter the library between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Please use the card-swipe box at the building’s front entrance.
  • The library will close at 9:00 p.m. Saturday night and reopen at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning, because everyone should take a little break from studying and get a good night’s sleep!
  • Reference services will not be available during the extended late-night hours. If you need research help, please be sure to visit or contact us during our normal Reference Desk hours.
