Did you make a new year’s resolution to read more? We can help! The new acquisitions lists are a great place to start. Go to the New Books & DVDspage to browse the new arrivals by subject or format. When you see something you want, click the “Request” button to place a hold on it.
If you’re off-campus you can use the OverDriveapp to download ebooks and digital audiobooks to your computer or mobile device, or read/listen to books online in your browser via the library’s OverDrive site. For help using OverDrive, view their Getting Started page or visit the Reference Desk for personal assistance.
From Tuesday, January 29 to Monday, February 11, we are providing open forums—online and inside the library—to allow members of our community to post comments and suggestions. Have your say and see what others are saying about the library!
What do you love about the library? What can we do better? What services and resources are we missing?
There are a few ways you can participate:
Post directly on the14 Days to Have Your Say! blog. (We want you to feel comfortable posting online, so your name will not be published on the blog.)
Visit the library to add your thoughts to the whiteboards you’ll find on each floor of the library.

The past four installments of 14 Days to Have Your Say! (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014) were very successful, and the library has made many changes to our services, policies, and resources as a result of the thoughtful feedback we’ve received.
For example, in response to previous 14 Days feedback, the library has:
increased normal operating hours and instituted 24-hour access during final exams
improved the physical facilities by adding more study carrels, installing stand-up work areas, and improving signage
adjusted borrowing policies to extend access to our popular and faculty DVD collections
improved the features and functionality of the group study room reservation system
installed new equipment and technology, such as “quick print” stations, scanners, and USB charging ports
We hope that this installment is just as popular and productive. Don’t be shy, tell us what’s on your mind!

Artist’s Statement
Color, light, energy, and movement all come to mind when thinking about why I create art. I am never at a loss for ideas and the desire to create and paint is in me every day. I enjoy challenging myself to come up with new color combinations and applying them to the canvas surface. I find the process mesmerizing and meditative.
Although I was trained classically, and created art in many forms and expressions, capturing color, light, and shapes are primary goals in my latest creations. My work has evolved and transformed from portraying landscapes through an impressionistic style to abstraction. I am currently painting works that emphasize light in new ways. A stroke of the brush and the application of bold color are what drives my art to come to life.
I created the latest works with water-soluble oil paints on canvas. These paintings capture my love of painting and being outdoors, as well as my emotions and feelings. When I paint, I am able to express nonverbal feelings.
I enjoy working on many paintings simultaneously. I sometimes reference landscape photographs that I took at a particular location and find inspiration from those photos and my experience at that time. It is so gratifying to complete a painting with my own two hands and bring a painting from my imagination into existence.

During the winter months the library’s hours may be impacted by inclement weather. When the University is closed for weather, so is the library. If the library needs to make an emergency closing outside of “regular” university hours (late at night or on the weekend), we will make announcements on our social media channels and via email. Happy New Year! Here at the library we are celebrating the arrival of 2019 and the 10th anniversary of our annual “best books” display!
Back in January of 2009 we thought it would be fun to comb through multiple year-end “best of” lists to put together a display of the previous year’s top fiction and nonfiction titles. Thus began an annual tradition, and here we are ten years later…
This year we examined 17 unique review sources* to bring you a display of 100+ books and audiobooks. As always, you’ll find titles by popular authors who regularly land on the bestseller lists, as well as books from outside the spotlight that are worthy of your attention. The common denominator is that they have all been hailed as the best of 2018’s publishing.
Please take some time to visit the library’s lobby or browse the items online in our catalog. Many of these books are also available as downloadable eBooks and audiobooks via the library’s OverDrive digital collection.
If you don’t see anything of interest at first glance, keep checking back. As new acquisitions arrive and currently checked-out books are returned we will add more books to the display. Happy browsing!
