Our Turn: The Library Responds to 14 Days to Have Your Say!

Our response to the 14 Days to Have Your Say blog:

The staff of the Bentley Library thanks everyone who submitted their comments, suggestions, criticisms, and compliments during the most recent installment of the 14 Days to Have Your Say blog (March 16 – March 29, 2010).

During the time that the blog was open, the library staff only read/listened to the conversation, hoping to encourage a free and open discussion.  Now that everyone has “had their say”, we’ll address those issues that arose most frequently (though be assured that we read closely every comment made!).  To view our responses by category please visit the 14 Days to Have Your Say blog.  Or, you may click here to view the full document.

We wouldn’t run 14 Days to Have Your Say if we weren’t committed to bettering our resources and services, and we want you to know that we are listening. In fact, here’s a quick list of changes that the Bentley Library made in response to the feedback we received from the last 14 Days blog, which ran from October 21 – November 3, 2008.

  • 24-hour library access during final exams
  • Earlier opening on weekdays (7:30am)
  • Longer borrowing time for popular DVDs (increased from 3 days to 7 days)
  • Allowing faculty DVDs to circulate to all students, staff and faculty (previously these did not circulate, now circulate for 3 days)
  • Installation of signage about smoking restrictions at the entrances to the Library
  • Installation of cell phone booths to combat noise from cell phone users who refuse to walk far to designated places
  • Added a login-free, anonymous “Help Keep the Library Quiet” chat widget to the library’s home page
  • Installation of new light sconces on the walls on all three floors of the building; upgraded the lighting in the stacks on the lower level and outside the Writing Center
  • Worked with Sodexho to continue expanding Einstein’s hours

We’re still listening…

We’d like to remind you that you don’t have to wait for the next 14 Days to Have Your Say to voice your opinion or make a recommendation. Simply use the “Suggest a Purchase/Comments” link on the bottom of the library’s website and send us your feedback anytime.
