I wanted to post a blog on my interpretation of chapter 7 from “Lives On The Boundary.” Rose makes multiple claims in this chapter about the education system in America; how kids cram information into their heads for a test and then forget everything they learned after they are finished with the class. Rose is right on point with this claim because I know I am guilty of this. Think about it, I mean if you went back to freshman year of High school and had to take a test you aced over again would you remember the information?...Doubtful. I never want to remember anything I think I wont need later. For example, geometry. I’m doing a business major when am I ever going to need geometry? I did fine in the class in high school, but if you asked me to do a simple problem now I highly doubt I would be able to. Another claim Rose made was about the information retained after high school. Everyone has different backgrounds. For example, when I came into CAP this summer and Prof. Specca asked us to write essays in MLA or APA format. I had no idea what he was talking about. I had never heard of the APA writing format before. He taught us how to write in APA format and showed us the differences between the two types of writing. At first I made a lot of mistakes beucae I was used to MLA and wanted to write that way. It was frustrating at first. Just because I didn’t know what APA format was doesn’t mean I don’t know how to write. I think everyone coming to any college or university from different backgrounds and different high schools, there is a huge variation of what people leaned and how they were taught.

Hey whats up Reshma,
I completely agree with the last claim of your argument that it can be difficult to change something that you are so use to doing. In your argument you state that, it was difficult for you to use the APA writing format because you were so use to MLA. Well, I believe that it is great for programs like CAP introducing us to different things they think we'll need in college. However, chances are we'll forget them as time progresses and our careers in college carry on. So do you think that there is any style of teaching where students would actually be able to retain the information in which they learn?

I did not have the chance to read about chapter 7 from “Lives On The Boundary.” Well, obviously your interpretation is helpful. Thank you so much for the time and effort of sharing it.
